Airport pick up service in Lima and night in 3 star hotel in Miraflores.

November 9   Tarapoto
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Tarapoto.  Our staff will pick you up in  Tarapoto on the marginal jungle edge.  Spend the night at the luxury resort Puerto Palmeras, free afternoon to enjoy hotel.  (parrots, monkey island, horses, pool, etc)  (B)

November 10 Tarapoto - Pomacochas
We will visit Lamas, located at only 22 km from Tarapoto City.  The Lamistas are descendants of the Chancas who defeated by the Incas when trying to invade Cusco, fled to the jungle for shelter.  Lamistas still maintain their traditions and Quechua language. We will stop by Moyobamba, the Orchid Capitol of Peru and visit Orchid display, typical lunch in jungle complex with variety of animals from the area.  We will spend the night in Puerto Pumas, 3 star hotel located in Pomacochas lake.  (B,L, D)




November 11  Pomacochas – Gocta waterfall

Transfer to Pueblo Valera and a nice level hike for 2 hours to Mirador.  We will observe the Gocta waterfall from this Mirador (monkeys and birds can be seen during the hike).  Night in Casona Monsante a beautiful colonial mansion, 3 star hotel in Chachapoyas. (B,L, D)

November 12  Chachapoyas – Levanto-Chachapoyas
Visit the community of Huancas at only 10 minutes from Chachapoyas, an Inca Mitima village, see some pottery and after that we will see the Sonche Canon ……….private transportation to Levanto (1 hr), the most significant city of the Inca and colonial Spanish era. Twenty minute walk up to explore the Yalape ruins (optional hike). See the restored Inca Garrison built to guard this major hub of Inca roads radiating out over 2000 miles from here.  Spend afternoon in Levanto where we donated a ceramics kiln to the community to reproduce pottery in the ancient style and visit the church or: Optional 3-hours downhill walk on perhaps Peru’s best un-restored Inca highway.  Night in Chachapoyas, Casona Monsante.  (B, BL, D)

 


November 13  Chachapoyas – Karajia – Choctamal
Transfer to the city of Lamud and hike to Karajia (20 minutes approx) to observe the Sarcophagus perched on a cliff.  Night in Choctamal MS Lodge, high in the mountains. (B,L, D)



November 14  Choctamal–Kuelap-Choctamal

We will spend the day at Fortress Kuelap known as "the Machu Picchu of the North". Kuelap has over 400 buildings inside 3 levels of walls, and is the largest stone structure in all the Americas.  Orchids and bromeliads cover the walls and trees inside this fortress. Overnight in Choctamal MS Lodge. (B,L, D)

 

 



November 15  Choctamal - Leymebamba

Noon transfer to Leymebamba town to see the best museum of the zone, the museum of Leymebamba with the 219 mummies brought from Lake of the Condors.  Night in the Museum of Leymebamba.  ( a unique experience, comfortable rooms).  (B,L, D)

 


November 16  Leymebamba - Chachapoyas
Private transfer to Yerbabuena  (7:00 am.) we will stop to enjoy the best Indian Market in the region, the “Yerbabuena Market”.  People from different communities from way over the cordillera (mountain range) travel all day to this market by horse to sell and buy their goods.  You will see corals with many pack animals and horses that the tiny villages bring their goods to trade at the market. People from villages like Levanto,  Mayno, Choctamal, La Jalca, Leymebamba, Colcamar, Celendin, Sto Tomas, etc.  products like potatoes, medicine plants, typical food like quinua, trigo, etc etc  They exchange or sell cows, horses, pigs, sheep, really impressive!  This market starts at 6 a.m. and finished around 10 a.m.  After that, we will visit Revash Mausoleums and come back to Leymebamba to spend the night.(B,L)

 

November 17
Free morning to enjoy Leymebamba, a very unique town.  Afternoon transfer to Chachapoyas (3.5 hours).  Night in Casona Monsante.  (B, L)

 

 


November 18  Chachapoyas-Chiclayo
Coach to Chiclayo 9 hours to Chiclayo.  On this trip you will have seen the world's most extreme conditions, the mightiest rainforest, the 2nd highest mountains, and the driest desert.  Americas’ most advanced culture left the richest gold tomb of the Americas, the Lord of Sipan.  This is on the Pacific and a rich desert soil irrigated by a river and huge canals taking water from mountains over 100 miles away.  Night in GranHotel Chiclayo. November 19
Chiclayo- Sipan Museum- Sican Museum - Trujillo
Visit the Sipan museum, the most important discovery was the tomb of the lord of Sipan, who archaeologists have concluded was a royal ruler from over 1600 years ago. The larger museum, the Museo Tumbas Reales houses the magnificent collection of artefacts found in the tomb of The Lord of Sipan, now world famous, as it is considered the most magnificent archaeological find in the Americas.   After lunch we will visit the Sican Museum,  Sican Culture developed from 750 ad, as the descendants of the Moche (100-800aD) and predecessors of the later Chimu cultures. The gold, silver and semi precious stone artefacts and accessories are beautifully displayed in the museum in a very educational manner. Transfer to Trujillo (3 hours approx) night in Hotel Libertador. (B,L)

November 20 Chiclayo – Trujillo – Lima See Chan Chan City (Chan Chan consists of the vast and crumbling ruins of the Imperial city of the Chimu domains and is the largest adobe city in the world. The sight includes 9 great compounds built by Chimu Kings: the city walls enclosed an area of 28 sq km containing the remains of palaces, temples, workshops, streets, houses and gardens), Huaca  of the Sun and the Moon (Both huacas constituted the center of power of the millenary Mochica, a culture that developed from 100 to 900 A.C. Nowadays the archaeological complex, also known as Huacas de Moche -Moche Temples-, encloses an area of 60 hectares) and Huanchaco beach (where you will have the opportunity to appreciate the local fishermen surfing the waves in their traditional “Caballitos de Totora”.  Night flight to Lima.  Airport pick up in Lima and night in hotel San Agustin Exclusive in Miraflores. City tour in Lima  (private car only) that includes:  Cathedral, Sto Domingo convent,  Costa Verde, etc..  Transfer to airport for your evening flight to USA.  (in this day we will have a room in the hotel San Agustin during the day to take showers and rest before the transfer to the airport in the evening).
