Trujillo – Chan Chan

CHAN CHAN, TRUJILLO

Chan Chan consists of the vast and crumbling ruins of the Imperial city of the Chimu domains and is the largest adobe city in the world. The sight includes 9 great compounds built by Chimu Kings: the city walls enclose an area of 28 sq km containing the remains of palaces, temples, workshops, streets, houses and gardens

Present-day visitors to Chan Chan can enter the Tschudi Complex, believed to be one of the later citadels built in the city.

Chan Chan was inscribed on the List of World Heritage in Danger in 1986, the same year it was inscribed on the World Heritage List.
